Ingredient dictionary
Arachidyl Alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol that is solid at room temperature. It helps give creams body, a smooth feel, and a stable texture. It is on the label of 15 products in our library. Checked against our library November 6, 2026.
Arachidyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol with a long carbon chain. Fatty alcohols of this type are usually made by reducing fatty acids, which often come from plant oils. At room temperature it is a waxy solid, so it is melted into the formula during production.
Formulators use it as an emollient and thickener. Emollients soften the skin's surface, and thickeners give a cream its body. It also helps oil and water phases stay blended, so a product keeps a smooth, even texture. Creams and sunscreens often use it for a soft, cushiony feel.
Good for
Suits creams and lotions that need a smooth, cushiony feel. Often seen in acne treatments and sunscreens.
Arachidyl Alcohol is a common cosmetic ingredient and is generally well tolerated. People with very sensitive skin should still patch test any new product and stop if irritation appears.
It is not a sunscreen filter. Sunscreen filters absorb or reflect UV light. Arachidyl Alcohol sits in the base of these products, helping the cream feel smooth and stay evenly mixed.
