Ingredient dictionary
A film-forming polymer made from glycerin-based and adipic acid building blocks, used to help give lip and eye products a flexible, glossy finish. It is on the label of 36 products in our library. Checked against our library November 6, 2026.
Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2 is a synthetic polymer. Chemists build it by linking diglycerin, a glycerin-based molecule, with adipic acid and fatty acid chains. The result is a large, film-forming molecule that blends well with oils and waxes.
Formulators use it because it leaves a thin, flexible film on lips and lashes. That film can add shine and help a product stay put. It usually feels smooth and slightly cushiony rather than sticky, and it blends easily into lip balms, glosses and mascara bases.
Good for
Suits people who want glossy lip care or mascara with a flexible, comfortable finish. It is a common choice in those products.
Nothing in our ingredient checks flags it, and it is generally well tolerated in lip and eye products. Anyone with a known sensitivity should still check the full label and patch test a new product first.
Mascara needs a film that clings to lashes and keeps the formula together. This polymer helps lay down a flexible film, so lashes look coated and the formula stays smooth. Many mascara formulas use film formers like it for this job.
