What Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil does

Softens and smooths dry skin
Conditions hair and makes it easier to comb
Acts as a carrier for other ingredients

Sweet almond oil is a fatty oil pressed from the seeds of sweet almonds, which grow on the Prunus dulcis tree. It is usually made by mechanical pressing rather than heavy refining. Its fatty acids are mostly oleic acid, with some linoleic acid, and it also carries small amounts of vitamin E.

Formulators use it as an emollient. Emollients soften skin by filling small gaps between dry flakes, so skin feels smoother. The oil spreads easily and leaves a soft, slightly cushioned finish. It also works well as a carrier oil, which means it helps spread other ingredients and essential oils evenly through a formula.

Good for

Suits people with dry or rough skin who like a soft, plant-based feel in lotions and body care.

Frequently asked questions

Is sweet almond oil safe for sensitive skin?

It is well tolerated by most people and often chosen for gentle lotions. Some people do react, so a small patch test on the inner arm is a sensible first step.

Is almond oil safe if I have a tree nut allergy?

Sweet almond oil comes from almonds, which are a tree nut, so people with tree nut allergies should be careful. Check with your doctor or allergist before using it, and read labels every time.
